There is no sex or brutality in this benign flick, but it just doesn’t exactly work. Cast includes Fred Williamson, Richard Pryor, Thalmus Rasulala, James Brown, and Robert Phillips. Ivan the Terrible, continuation of the legend of King Ivan IV, in which he takes on the boyars in a confrontation for power. Impressive film is just a shade underneath its predecessor, Forbidden by Stalin due to dubious illustration of Ivan’s secret patrol, and not released till 1958. Cast includes Nikolai Cherkassov; Serafima Birman, Mikhail Nazvanov, Pavel Kadochnikov, and Andrei Abrikosov.

Apollo 13, this movie recounts the remarkable tale of the Apollo 13 mission to the moon. Nearing the moon, the spacecraft experiences multiple systems failures. With the oxygen supply fading and systems not working, they are stranded over 200,000 miles from Earth. Against hopeless odds, the crew of Apollo 13, and thousands of people on the ground, all labor diligently on resourceful approaches to bring them safely home. The fact that this crew survived this mission is one of the truly wondrous tales of our time.
